WowGr8 of EarthGang is sharing a story about his history with J. Cole – and law enforcement. Wow was on X (formerly Twitter) and decided to explain an incident that led to a police raid on J. Cole’s North Carolina home studio back in 2016.
“I’m the reason the neighbors thought Cole was selling dope,” he tweeted. “We would smoke out the garage and the driveway in a very white nice neighborhood. The day 12 kicked Cole door in, we had just left the house hours before to go to SXSW.”
Cole’s neighbors reportedly told the authorities that drugs were being made/sold in the home. The incident would inspire Cole’s 2016 track “Neighbors.” Dreamville producer Elite would later talk about the incident in an interview with Complex.
“[The police] go downstairs and all they see is a studio,” Elite said. “ And obviously they felt stupid. It’s just crazy ironic because out of anybody, they picked the wrong person. J. Cole is the last person to do anything like that. He’s out here doing extremely positive things for the community and for young artists. Because of obvious racism from the neighbors, the police were called and a raid took place.”
In addition to the Cole story, Wow also reminisced on X about meeting Thundercat and Terrace Martin.
“Before TPAB came out we met Thundercat for the first time,” Wow shared. “We thought we were meeting to start some music or get some beats. He played us a buncha instrumentals from ‘Pimp’ which wasn’t out yet and then told us to get the fuck out his crib. Met Terrace later and he just laughed.”
