A helicopter reportedly carrying a family of tourists from Spain crashed into the Hudson River in New York City on Thursday, April 10. The crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m., near the Jersey City side of the Hudson. ABC7NY reports that the helicopter carried a family of two adults, three children, and a pilot.

Details On The Tragic Hudson River Helicopter Crash
A video shared with Eyewitness News showed pieces of the helicopter breaking apart before falling into the water, per ABC7NY. When crews arrived, they reportedly found the helicopter upside down in the water. The FAA believes the helicopter was a Bell 206 and took off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. It reportedly went off the radar at 3:25 p.m.
ABC7NY confirmed that all six people aboard the helicopter, including the family of five — two adults, three children — and the pilot passed away in the crash.
NYC Mayor & Residents React To The Horrific Crash
New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the tragedy in a press conference shortly after the incident. He expressed condolences to the family on board the helicopter.
“Our hearts go out to the family and those on board,” Mayor Adams said.
Dani Horbiak, a local resident, also shared her reaction to the heartbreaking news, describing what she heard from her apartment window when the crash took place.
“I watched it fall out of the sky! I heard five or six loud noises that sounded almost like gunshots in the sky and saw pieces fall off, then watched it fall into the river,” Horbiak told ABC7.
Per NBC News, an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fatal incident.
Victims Of Fatal Helicopter Crash Identified
Hours after the fatal crash, PEOPLE released the names of the victims. The outlet notes that Augustín Escobar — president of Siemens Spain — his wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children lost their lives in the incident. The identity of the pilot who also passed away during the incident have not been released.
