Run The Jewels (Killer Mike & El-P) dropped their whip-heavy visuals for “Banana Clipper”, a new single off their self-titled collaborative debut featuring the likes of Big Boi. The dynamite Brooklyn meets Atlanta joint effort is set against the backdrop of fresh paint jobs and spinning chrome and features a cameo from another southern son in Big Boi. The tandem of machine-gun patter emcees drop into the El produced track with screaming sirens and some rubber (amongst other things) burning. Run The Jewels’ self-titled LP is a ferocious debut from the duo featuring the aforementioned bigger half of Outkast, Until The Ribbon Breaks and DJ legend Prince Paul.
Since their explosive 2013 debut Run the Jewels has evolved from cult heroes to one of hip-hop’s most formidable forces, blending politically charged lyricism with razor-sharp production across four acclaimed albums. RTJ2 (2014) cemented their reputation with ferocious energy and anthems of defiance, while RTJ3 (2016) topped multiple Billboard genre charts and earned the Libera Award for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Record. RTJ4 (2020), released amid global protests, was hailed as a rallying cry for justice and innovation, followed by RTJ Cu4tro (2022), a Latin-driven remix project showcasing their collaborative reach. Beyond the group, Killer Mike’s 2023 solo album MICHAEL earned him three Grammys, while El-P’s production prowess continues to shape the duo’s signature sound. Together, they’ve headlined major festivals, collaborated with legends from Zack de la Rocha to Pharrell Williams, and remained steadfast in delivering hip-hop that is as incendiary as it is relevant.
