Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming movie The Thomas Crown Affair is currently in pre-production and set to begin filming July 14 in London, but details about the highly-anticipated movie are making the rounds. Boasting an enviable cast and with understandable excitement around Jordan’s second excursion as a director (he previously helmed 2023’s Creed III), …Crown looks to be a watershed moment for all involved. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that Danai Gurira will be joining the remake; she previously worked with Jordan on Ryan Coogler’s 2018 hit Black Panther.
The Thomas Crown Affair is a psychological cat-and-mouse game involving a charismatic billionaire who puts together heists for fun and an insurance investigator working to solve his crimes. Their chase eventually turns into a mutual attraction. The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway and Yaphet Kotto; and a popular remake arrived in 1999, starring Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo and Denis Leary.
Jordan’s most recent movie, the period horror film Sinners, hit streaming services in early July after a record-setting box office run. Directed by Ryan Coogler, Sinners’ success proved to be the latest win for both director and star. In an interview with NY Mag earlier this year, Jordan briefly alluded to The Thomas Crown Affair being a project he’s fought to make for more than a decade.
“For me? Next?” he said in response to an inquiry about what he has coming after Sinners. “I’m doing …Thomas Crown…–directing my next movie, The Thomas Crown Affair. That’s a movie I’ve been trying to make–or I’ve been wanting to make–for the past 13 years or so. So this is a big one for me.”
Here’s what we know so far about Michael B. Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.
