Mariah Carey has dropped a teaser for her upcoming “Type Dangerous” music video. The pop megastar officially released the single on Friday, June 6, as the leadoff for her anticipated sixteenth studio album. The music video is set to debut June 13.
“I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world!” Carey said in a statement. “I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous!'”
She shared the visual teaser on Instagram. The song’s music video has a cinematic feel and appears to be set in a casino.
Mariah performed “Type Dangerous” at the 2025 BET Awards, where she was also honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award.
“My life and career have been quite the adventure,” she said during her acceptance speech. “It took me a while, but I realized life is far too short to live for anyone else’s approval.”
For her performance, Carey took the stage with Anderson .Paak, who produced “Type Dangerous.” And her special guest was none other than Rakim, who rapped the opening verse from Eric B. & Rakim’s classic “Eric B. is President” — which is heavily sampled on “Type Dangerous.”
The single is also her first release under a new deal with the media label, Gamma. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carey has entered into a venture with the label, which was founded in 2023 by industry vet Larry Jackson.
“What Larry Jackson is building at Gamma,” Carey said in an interview with Forbes, “is beyond music. It’s a cultural shift, and I’m excited to be part of something that honors legacy while pushing boundaries. This next chapter is about owning my narrative and creating freely on my own terms.”
