Details On Teenage Girls’ Brutal Attack On Elderly Man

WUSA9 reports that on Tuesday, October 15, the 15-year-old girl who allegedly suggested the plan testified. She revealed that she and her friends hung out at a skate park in Silver Spring, Maryland, but wanted more excitement when they returned to her home in D.C. So, she proposed they “find someone to beat up.” When prosecutor Gabrielle Logaglio asked her why, the girl replied, “Because we were bored.”

Per WUSA9, the group made their way to D.C.’s Brightwood neighborhood around 11 p.m. There, they reportedly saw an unknown man attacking Reggie Brown, who was lying on the ground. The 15-year-old girl allegedly asked the man if they could join in on the attack. After he agreed, they all chased Brown, who tried to escape after the man briefly walked away to talk to the teens. The Washington Post mentions that Reggie took late-night walks, a routine his family said he followed to cope with the stress of cancer treatments.

Surveillance footage showed the teens and the unknown man chasing Brown through an alley until they caught him. Then, the 15-year-old’s younger sister reportedly recorded the incident on her cellphone while the group taunted and beat Brown.

The Washington Post adds that the teens pulled down his pants, took his belt, and hit him with it. PEOPLE also notes that video footage captured one girl cheering, “he’s leaking,” while referring to Reggie’s bleeding head.

PEOPLE stated that officers found Reggie Brown dead at the scene when they arrived. The Chief Medical Examiner later conducted an autopsy, revealing that he suffered blunt-force trauma consistent with homicide, according to a previous statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.

More Info About Reggie Brown & What’s Next For The Teens

During earlier court proceedings, homicide detective Harry Singleton testified that Reggie Brown had disabilities and health issues, including two fingers missing from each hand and a meal plate in his head.

The Washington Post reports that the 15-year-old teen girl who testified received a three-year secured detention sentence after pleading guilty to a lesser charge. The outlet adds that another teen pleaded guilty in the case but hasn’t received a sentence yet. If the two girls on trial are convicted, they could spend time in secured detention until they turn 21 before getting released.
