Amid fan freakouts over Tyler, The Creator’s Austin City Limits declaration that he didn’t know if he would be on stage again any time soon, the musician surprised his followers by announcing a new album.

The Odd Future alum took to Instagram this week to announce the release of his eighth studio album, CHROMAKOPIA. This comes just one day after he dropped a teaser “ST. CHROMA,” which features Tyler leading a group of people all in the same outfit into a green shipping container with “CHROMAKOPIA” written on it.

“I built a path to freedom ’cause them words that he said/ Give a f**k about traditions, stop impressin’ the dead,” the rapper whispers during the teaser. “I ain’t never had a doubt inside me/ And if I ever told you that I did, I’m f**kin’ lyin’.”

Following up his 2021 project, Call Me When You Get Lost, CHROMAKOPIA is set to drop on Monday, Oct. 28.

Though the music industry has largely been adhering to the Friday album drop since Beyoncé released her self-titled album on a Friday in 2013, there’s a reason Tyler is changing things up this time around. Just last year, Tyler did some foreshadowing during an interview with Nardwaur when he explained why he thought music releases during the week make more sense than Friday.

“People on the weekends, they just want to chill and hang out. So they’re not really listening,” he began. “But I think if you put it out during the week, man. That commute to work or that commute to school or, just, whatever that is, you really have that hour or thirty minutes to dive in and really listen.”

Tyler also said that releasing albums at midnight feels “disrespectful” to the artist, who worked so hard on the project for people to be listening “passively.”

“People are sleep on the east coast and people are going to sleep on the west,” he explained. “I think it coming out in the morning would just make more sense.”

See you on Oct. 28!
