Kayla Nicole already gets enough backlash from Taylor Swift fans online, but after her appearance on Angel Reese’s podcast, she collected a whole new category of haters.

During her appearance on the WNBA star’s Unapologetically Angel podcast, Travis Kelce’s ex opened up about all of the negative attention she’s received online since the start of his relationship with Taylor Swift.

“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and online chaos doesn’t impact me,” Nicole told Reese. “It does, even to this day. You can go to my most recent post and there will be people debating each other why I am worthless and I’ll never be a talented person and I have no career.”

Kayla went on to admit that she doesn’t understand where the hate comes from, alluding to Swift being at the “level of fame that attracts crazy people.”

“I haven’t done anything to warrant that backlash,” she insisted.

Unfortunately for the I Am Athlete host, another segment of that same interview ended up garnering more backlash than ever before.

During the episode, Kayla revealed that after a guy she was dating dumped her for a “singer/actress,” she dressed up as them for Halloween — and posted it on Instagram. While she didn’t name names, she added that she had moved to New York to be with the mystery man and was heartbroken when she found out he had another woman the whole time.

“So I was dating a guy, and he dumped me through a text message. And he dumped me for this singer/actress who was famous at the time. He dumped me for her. Lied about it for months then popped out with her and it became this public thing,” she said.

Fans very quickly dug up her 10-year-old Halloween costume, when Kayla dressed up as Teyana Taylor from Kanye West’s “Fade” music video. Many people agreed that this was a crazy thing to do–which Nicole emphasized while telling the story–even getting a catty response from Teyana herself.

Now, Kayla is responding to the backlash, revealing that even her own mother had a problem with how she handled the situation.

“After the podcast came out, I thought that I handled things with grace,” she said during Tuesday’s episode of I Am Athlete Daily. “I thought that I answered the questions to the best of my ability. The public had their interpretation of things — didn’t matter to me.”

“My mom calls me though — and it’s those conversations … that’s what matters to me,” Nicole continued. “Because she’s offended, she’s hurt by the way people are perceiving her daughter, she’s hurt with the negative headlines and the way that people are spinning it.”

Wiping away tears, she went on to share the advice her mother gave her for the future.

“My mom was like, ‘Maybe next time, we don’t answer those questions,’ and it’s as simple as that,” Nicole explained. “Don’t give it any energy. You don’t have to always respond.”
