Sonya’s Son Malachi Hill Speaks Out

Speaking to the press, including Fox Illinois, Malachi said the police department never contacted him about his mother’s fatal shooting. Instead, he got a call from HSHS St. John’s Hospital, whose staff informed him Sonya Massey had gotten shot in the eye and the bullet came out her neck.

Sonya Massey’s son said the hospital would not tell him WHO did it but kept repeating that “someone” shot her.

“They would never tell me who shot my mom, though. And I think I was the first person to find it out, too. I had to go tell my grandma myself. That’s all I can say,” Malachi shared.

As previously reported, Sonya’s father recently shared similar sentiments as his grandson on ‘CBS Mornings.’ James Wilburn said he was never told it was a deputy-involved shooting. “We were under the impression that she was killed by the intruder or some other person from the street, and they just went in there and found her dead body,” he shared. Additionally, Wilburn said there was even a narrative that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Here’s What Happened To Sonya Massey

As previously reported by TSR Investigates’ Justin Carter, the 36-year-old passed on July 6 in Springfield, Illinois. Bodycam footage showed the moment two officers arrived at Sonya’s home, and she welcomed them into her living room, warning them not to hurt her.

After interacting with them in the living room, Sonya walked over to the kitchen to handle a boiling pot of water. One of the cops, Officer Sean P. Grayson, escalated the energy in the room when he began yelling for Sonya to set down the pot or risk getting shot in the face.

In response, Sonya Massey repeatedly apologized, but Grayson pulled the trigger, firing in her direction three times.

A bullet struck Massey in the face about 31 minutes after she called 911 at 12:50 a.m. Doctors pronounced her dead at the hospital at 1:47 a.m. Bodycam footage released earlier this week shows one of the officers calling Massey a “b***h” who is “crazy.”

Officer Grayson has since been fired from the police force and faces five counts, including three for first-degree murder. The 30-year-old has pleaded not guilty, per CNN.
