Though he once claimed it would arrive at some point in late 2019, El-P has offered an update on his next project with Killer Mike.
Responding to a fan on Twitter (see below,) the producer revealed the fourth installment of Run The Jewels was delayed because it was still in the mixing and sample-clearing phase, but will be landing “earlyish next year,” assuring the followers the album is “hard as fuck.” In subsequent tweets, El shared a bar from the album (though he didn’t specify whose line it was) and revealed that the album is currently 11 tracks long, clocking in at just under 40 minutes.
Last month, the producer revealed that he and Mike had been working out of Rick Rubin‘s Shangri-La studio in Malibu. And though it’ll likely be at least a few months before any official announcements, Run The Jewels appeared on projects from Danny Brown and DJ Shadow earlier in 2019.
When the album did arrive, it actually arrived two days earlier than the expected seond release date, on June 3, 2020.
RTJ4 dropped at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the duo’s first top ten release.
