Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese is continuing to make “Mebounds” her own. The WNBA star and Reebok revealed her latest sneaker, the Angel Reese 1 Mebounds, during WNBA All-Star Weekend. This comes after it was reported that Reese has gotten “Mebounds” officially copyrighted.
Reese’s critics began using the term “mebounds” to dismiss her rebounding statistics; the common criticism being that Reese gets so many rebounds from her own missed shots.
According to Bleacher Report, Reese sought to officially trademark the term earlier in July. Reese’s official website states: “Angel filed a trademark application in Maryland for ‘MEBOUNDS.’ This name will be used for an exclusive range of hats, t-shirts, and sweatshirts, launching a fashion line under her Angel C. Reese Foundation.”
And she addressed the detractors in a TikTok video.
“Whoever came up with the ‘mebounds’ thing, y’all ate because ‘mebounds’, rebounds, crebounds…” she said in the video, “…anything that comes off that board, it’s mine.”
“And a brand? That’s six figures right there,” she continued. “The trolling, I love when y’all do it because, like, the ideas be good. Like, when y’all have to alter my face and s–t because I’m cute, alright, whatever. That doesn’t get me. But when y’all came up with ‘mebounds’ — because statistically, all the rebounds that I get aren’t always just mine. They’re, like, the defense’s, too, or somebody else on my team — but, when y’all came up with ‘mebounds,’ y’all ate.”
