Cowboy Cody Did WHAT?!
Jonathan Mason, also called “Cowboy Cody,” reportedly unleashed a live raccoon inside the crowded bar on Friday, June 6, as payback for being turned away at the door. According to locals, Mason is known as a farm-living regular with a history of causing chaos at nearby bars. And, his past includes a previous incident that got him banned from The Big Apple Grill and Bar in Murray.
Though initially calm when recognized and asked to leave, Mason returned moments later. And this time, he let the frightened animal loose among the unsuspecting crowd. A bartender for the spot, Mary Hafner, who witnessed the chaos, said Mason trapped the raccoon earlier that day and carried it with him to the bar.
“I’m a bartender, so you know I’ve seen some crazy stuff in my time. But nothing like this,” she told The Post. She added, “[The raccoon] was more scared than anything.”
More Details
Hafner, who’s worked there for five years, claims Mason had already been drinking when he showed up that night. Since he’d always had a soft spot for her, she tried to get him to leave quietly before things got out of hand. However, the situation quickly escalated when he returned with the animal, letting it loose. Furthermore, an employee tried to grab the raccoon by its tail—only to get bitten. And, the bite sent him straight to get rabies shots.
According to reports, a video from the scene shows the chaos unfold. The frightened raccoon was apparently dodging tables and shrieking as it was pursued. Hafner eventually calmed the raccoon and wrapped it in a towel. “I’m a Kentucky girl. I had no problem catching him,” she said.
Not Cowboy Cody Wildin’ Again!
As for Mason, this isn’t his first rodeo—literally. Big Apple employees once called the cops on “Cowboy Cody” after he allegedly whipped a mule in the parking lot. If that ain’t wild enough — he ended up leading police on a drunken chase on the mule. And, the mule incident happened not once, but twice in the same week — December 7 and December 9 of 2024!
Following the raccoon incident, police conducted a traffic stop and pulled “Cowboy Cody” over. They claim he wasn’t trying to cooperate — refusing to roll down his windows or step out of the car. Officers allegedly had to forcibly remove him from the vehicle. Additionally, he was hit with a list of charges, including assault, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and even failure to maintain insurance.
