Katt Williams offered his take on Kendrick Lamar’s recent run and the Compton rapper’s high-profile feud with Drake. In a sit-down conversation on Carmelo Anthony’ s 7PM In Brooklyn podcast, the superstar comedian broke down why he felt Lamar’s Toronto show was culturally impactful. Despite performing in Drake’s hometown, KDot drew a massive response from the audience when he performed his hit Drake diss, “Not Like Us.”
“Just understand what Kendrick has to be to even do a show there,” Williams said. “We’re not talking about Drake doing his show in L.A. We’re not talking about him in the Bay. We’re not talking about that. But we are talking about Kendrick going there and doing the body of work. That’s what it means to stand on them ten. It means standing on that business.”
He shared what he felt was Lamar’s mindstate in going to Toronto and doing that song.
“I said what I said over here and I’ll be saying it over there, as well,” Willliams explained–speaking from Lamar’s perspective. “And that’s what’s so critical about me trying to make sure that I say it as viciously as I mean to say it. To say it as accurately as I can say it. Because I’m going to still have to be saying it. This is part of keeping that energy. So, you gotta respect it.”
When it was suggested that Lamar simply “tapped into his inner hater,” Katt pushed back.
“He was very specific so that you understand that this is not hatred,” he said. “It’s a double entendre that he’s giving you. He’s saying I don’t hate you, I just hate all the choices that you make. Because those are the choices that b—h ass n—as make.”
Katt said that he’s a fan of both artists but would’ve advised anyone not to go after Kendrick Lamar.
“I don’t give a f**k who it is,” Williams admitted. “I would tell anybody that’s gonna fight a bear: ‘I’m not going to see you again. You can’t beat the bear.’ I’m able to say those conversations because I’m a bear. Kendrick is not who you wanted to tussle with. It don’t matter who you were.”
